While living in West Tisbury, MA, I felt the urge to dig in the soil, or grow within--my self.

During the winter of 1987, I was hired by my neighbor, Anna Edey, to work in Solviva a community designed, and built, greenhouse. I was introduced to seed catalogues, and taught The Living Art of Organic Gardening.
While cultivating a love for the planet, my sons, and my seedlings, I also learned about the

and the only health food store on the island for $12 a pound.
